Welcome to Funky Nature Time

The Tree Happy Show

There should be a picture here... This is a one hour show (1/2 hour structured,1/2 free play with props and artist) that explores the idea that our actions can affect the size of our forest. They will see firsthand the relation between consuming goods and the speed at which the trees disappear. Forest fairyman plays the keyboard and Catgirl sings her way through a number of traditional and original songs as they and the kids dress up as a forest and disappear every time more products are needed. Before all the trees go they will work out how to consume less and slow the loss of forest. The free play aspect will supply open ended natural resources such as our home made natural building blocks, found forest objects, musical instruments built from recycled materials, forest dress ups and newspaper origami .

Price for show & educators pack is only $300.00

Natural playtime

This program is a stripped down version of the tree happy show. We don't do the performance side (puppet shows, singing, story time) we instead focus on the natural playtime. The children can crush ochre, white clay and charcoal add a binding compound, turn it into paint and then do bark painting. (sometimes ‘extreme’ bark painting)

There should be a picture here... There should be a picture here... The gum tree blocks (sustainably sourced) are a winner with the children. Not only can they make amazing natural castles and mansions, but they can attempt amazing feats of balancing as they try and place large blocks on top of skinny sticks and round blocks on square ones.

Of course, the recycled instruments are on hand to add a background of rhythmic pulses.

The found forest floor objects are a favourite with the inquisitive ones, especially when you get to add them to freshly made playdough. There should be a picture here... There should be a picture here...

New resources are constantly being added offering a wider palette for their minds to explore. We have some water walls, music walls, cubby building and clay making that have now been added to the program. Usually this activity follows the tree happy show and the childrens play ideas revolve around forest protection and playing the music they have just heard, but as a standalone show it still offers lots of creative designing and exploration of natural open ended objects. To top it all off, every resource is sustainable, reusable, recycled or re-invented.

The Music show

It contains all of the songs of the tree happy show but instead of puppet shows, story time and role-playing it has extra songs and a musical jam session using the recycled instruments. Its focus is less on sustainability and more about rhythm and movement.

Some musical epochs’ are loader/softer and faster/slower as well as how music can affect your emotions. (happy, sad, scared). It also explores melody. (twinkle twinkle little star vs ABCD)

Suitable for ages 2-8 the music show will let children see that music is not just something to be consumed but something that you can produce.
